If you've been trying to discover more about Marc Maron, get in line. First off, this guy will need to slow down long enough for a person to find out what he's up to. Being a co-host of the Breakroom Live and Morning Sedition show, as well as his very own, the WTF with Marc Maron, this guy is one of the busiest stand-up comedians alive. Although these are only a few of the activities keeping Mr. Maron busy, his life wasn't always about acting, hosting, and stand-up comedy. In the following paragraphs, you're going to discover some interesting facts about this extremely talented comedian, and how he found his way from the streets of Jersey City, to his own spot behind a Podcast microphone.
Jersey City, New Jersey or Was It Wayne?
Life began for Maron in New Jersey on September 27, 1963. Born in Jersey City to a Jewish family, staying in one place became difficult. After moving to Wayne, NJ and then Prompton Lakes, at the age of only six years old, Maron would have to follow his father to Alaska after his dad decided to join the US Air Force. There they would stay for 2 years before finding their permanent resting place in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From there, Maron would finish grade school and move off to Boston where he would attend Boston University until his graduation in the 1980's. Although Maron did have comedic aspirations, they would have to wait.
The Comedy Store and Sam Kinison
After finishing with school, Maron moved to Los Angeles. After dabbling in comedy for a little while, he decided to try his talents at one of the most popular comedy clubs in the city, The Comedy Store. He then met up with a very popular Sam Kinison, who he would eventually become an associate. After spending a great deal of time on the comedy circuit in LA, he decided to move off to New York and get involved in the New York alternative comedy scene. After a time, he decided to audition for Saturday Night Live. The news wasn't good and he was passed over.
He then chose to continue his stand up career, but acting was always in the forefront. He eventually got his break when he was able to record a few HBO specials. From there he began to do voiceovers, fund raisers, and mingle with some top performers in the industry. It really didn't take long before Maron became part of a stand up series, as well as getting a small acting part in the movie - Almost Famous. After creating his first TV show by the name of, the Jerusalem Syndrome, Maron began to tour with other comedians, appear in largely publicized magazines, and eventually collaborate with Sam Seder.
From Radio to Podcasts
The Collaboration with Seder began a career in webcasting. A show, Breakroom Live with Maron & Seder, was created as part of the collaboration and became extremely popular. Although it was eventually cancelled after only 2 years, Maron had to find another pathway to channel his talents. Since webcasting was something that he liked, he decided to do a little radio. Maron began hosting a show named, the Morning Sedition which was part of the Air America lineup. After doing so, he became very popular. Only after a short time, he decided to try something on his own which would include a live Podcast that would happen twice a week, and the 'WTF with Marc Maron' was born.
As stated before, Marc Maron is very difficult to follow because of all the different projects and activities he's become a part of. His Podcast show has become very popular as well, and after recording over 20 episodes, his show has been selected for broadcast via the Public Radio Exchange. In addition, on May 6, 2012, at the Comedy Central Comedy Awards, he took home an award for "Best Comedy Podcast." Although Marc Maron has been married twice, struggled with drugs and alcohol, and uses the material in his comedic acts, he is a very caring individual when it comes to cats, helping people, and spreading the news about comedy via his weekly WTF Podcast that you do not want to miss.
