Jeffrey Ross Lifschultz, also known as “The Roast Master General” on stage, is a stand-up comedian well-known for his insult comic style of cracking jokes. He is also an actor, director, and author of the book entitled I only Roast The Ones I Love: Busting Balls Without Burning Bridges which was released on the September 15, 2009.
Jeffrey Ross, as he is more commonly called, was born on September 13, 1965 to a Jewish Family in New Jersey. This was made known during a stand-up special of Comedy Central’s show Jeffrey Ross: No Offense. During an interview in 2008 by Full Circle, a TV program of BUTV10, he mentioned that he graduated from the College of Communication of Boston University and served as the Director of WTBU, the University’s radio station. He also mentioned that he worked at a local Boston National Public Radio affiliate. At the age of 14, Jeffrey Ross lost his mother to leukemia and his father 5 years later when he was 19.
In 1995, Jeffrey Ross made his first movie appearance as an extra, playing a movie theatre goer in the film Jeffrey. He also played as a car theft victim in the 1996 film Celtic Pride. Other movies which he have appeared in include Brokers, Isn’t She Great, The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, Heartbreak Hospital, National Security, Stuck on You, Along Cme Polly, American Dreamz, One Two Many, and the yet to be released A Novel Romance. He also voiced a character in Farce of the Penguins.
Jeffrey Ross currently serves as the Roastmaster General for the New York Friars’ Club having been a roaster for eleven consecutive Comedy Central Roasts. In addition, he has also worked as a writer for celebrity roasts and in other cases, produced or performed in them. Some of these celebrities include Hugh Hefner, Jerry Stiller, Rob Reiner, Drew Carey, Carson Daly, Emmitt Smith, Mike Greenberg, Gene Simmons, Mike Golic, David Hasselhoff, Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen. Furthermore, he is also featured in Shorties Watchin’ Shorties, the animated series produced by Comedy Central.

Ross is perhaps most well known in TV after appearing on CSI. He has also played roles in Six Feet Under by HBO, The Sarah Silverman Program by Comedy Central, and Weeds by Showtime. Aside from these appearances, he is also part of the regular cast of Nick Cannon’s Wild ‘n Out which is shown on MTV.
Ross directorial debut came at 2005 with Patriot Act: A Jeffrey Ross Home Movie which won as the Best Feature Film at the Montreal Comedy Festival. It is a documentary with Ross’s experience entertaining American troops in Iraq. The documentary also featured his friends and fellow comedians Blake Clark, Kathy Kinney, and Drew Carey.
Ross appeared in Celebrity Poker’s third tournament but did not win the first match. He also competed on Dancing with the Star’s seventh season. He was accidentally poked in the eye by his partner, Edyta Śliwińska, but competed despite his doctor advising against continuing. They were the first to be eliminated that season.
Currently Jeff has a show called "The Burn" in Comedy Central.
