The famous Laugh Factory has been revered as the #1 comedy club in the nation. Its doors opened in late 1979 and occupied a place in Hollywood Southern California and in Long Beach in 2008. "Los Angeles Magazine" wrote in June 2005 "Many clubs claim to be world famous, but Laugh Factory actually earned the title" and in March 2005 Jamie Masada - the founder, made an impact in the comedy industry and became renowned in Business Week and a variety of other publications. The reason behind the club's success lies in some of the brightest comedy stars that stood and impressed many crowds on its well-known stage.
With its founder Jamie Masada, who serves as the dynamic force of the famous Laugh Factory comedy club, is well-regarded as a trendsetter with his iconic name that transcends while on the comedy scene. Since the start of the club to the present, Masada somehow continues to be very influential in keeping up with the careers of many comical icons like Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. In fact, the New York Daily News regarded him as the "Real King of Comedy". This is because of his intelligence and capabilities when it comes to the comedy field. These enable him to become the most important comedy figure in the nation. Even his suggestions are considered by the leading brokers of the entertainment industry.
However, sometime in 2006 Laugh Factory made a few headlines when Michael Richards initiated a chauvinistic outburst against a couple of African American men in the crowd during a certain show when they tried to mock him. As a result, the club prohibited comical figures to use the "n-word" during their routines. Unfortunately, less than a month after the incident Damon Wayans used the word sixteen times in about 20 minutes. He was then thwarted from performing at the stage for three months and fined about $320.
At the present, Laugh Factory Open Mic is under development for DirecTV and GI Comedy Throw down, a modernized undertaking of conventional USO Comedy Specials. On the other hand, one of the many affairs which are hosted by Laugh Factory is the Laugh Bowl, which is held yearly in search for talented young individuals on the university grounds of Southern California's UCLA Bruins, as well as USC Trojans. The crew will capture routines performed by participants with the use of their cameras. Immediately, all recordings will be posted online and open for people to vote on.
The leading five finalists from different schools will showcase their talents on stage of the club, and compete with each other right before a group of highly skilled comedians. The sole champion will be given a show at the famous Laugh Factory comedy club, and place the winner's name along with his/her school name above the Sunset Boulevard gazebo. The title holder will receive $5,000 in gift certificates, and the school acquires the Laugh Bowl plaque as proof of recognition for having the best student with an excellent sense of humor.
