The political environment and current economic conditions in the country open up great channels of material for the world of stand up comedians. They can be a voice of the American people. Today, the very best of political comedians who are active on TV, radio, and in the movies, have the ability to enable discussion, bring issues to us that we might find difficult to grasp, all with a dose of comedy. Political comedians today are followed on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites.
Our voices, which often cannot reach Washington, can be heard through brilliant standup comedy, and they do get noticed! Most political stand up comedians do lean to the “left”, but they all speak to us no matter what our personal politics is. Let’s look at the hottest political standup comedians currently getting their message out:
Lewis Black
All of us have seen and heard screaming voice of Lewis Black. Black is one of the most famous political standup comics and is world renowned for his own brand of contagiously funny humor. Everything he says is hysterical and you often can laugh until you wet your pants. Not only does his humor crack you up but also his facial expressions will get you laughing. Black is known for his political humor regard the Bush Administration and his spots on the Daily Show that cover current political events. Black also does creative spots poking at political figures on the far right and insane as Glen Beck.
Robin Williams
We have all enjoyed the candor and verbally graphic stand up humor of Robin Williams. A talented actor and comedian, Williams has been entertaining us for years with his ability to impersonate politicians and the standing issues in a method that hits home, makes us laugh and makes us think. Williams’s most recent tour, “Weapons of Self Destruction” was taped in Washington, DC. His take on life’s ups and down, absurdities and very pointed social and political observations leave you gasping for air.
John Oliver
The hottest British-born standup comedian is John Oliver. John is well known for his several times a week appearances on The Daily Show, which covers a plethora of current political situations. John Oliver takes us around the world as the Senior Foreign Correspondent for whatever country or issue he is reporting on. Oliver has been on pod casts with his weekly satirical political comedy. His work on The Daily Show gives him the opportunity to be “not only an entertainer but an irritant.” Oliver covered the absurd and cumbersome process of applying for US citizenship in a way that reminded us what people go through to become part of our citizenry.
Marc Maron
Pod casting by comedians is hot right now. It is a great opportunity to put your ear phones in and laugh to erase a stressful day, and Marc Maron can do that with his "WFT ” pod cast. He has been a stand-up comedienne for many years. Starting out in radio with the Marc Maron Show, he then co-hosted Morning Sedition, all political oriented shows. Pulling on his Jewish roots, he wrote “The Jerusalem Syndrome: My Life as a Reluctant Messiah” gave him lots of material for his stand up comedy acts.
